Number 4/11
  • Number 4/11

This is a soft pastel on paper original artwork, number 4 in 11 of the series named 'The Dance'. It was created in honor of the Black Lives Matter 2020 civil rights movement.  I made this series to celebrate the black lives that have and still is contributing to the art of dance.

Number 4  is dedicated to the tap dancer Savion Glover. I got to hear about Savion Glover from his work in Happy Feet back in 2006. Who among us didnt fall in love with the tap dancing Mumble, brought to life by the choreography and motion capture talent of Glover? Glover said this regarding working as a coloured dancer in America "my approach to tap has a realionship to what we as African Americans went through in this country. To an extent it's what we continue to go through-the struggle to be recognised".

Please note: I have colour adjusted the vibrancy of this artwork in the photo, in order for you to be able to better appreciate its details. To get a better understanding of the actual artwork please watch the video that shows its actual colouration which carries more muted tonalities.
