Nest-Egg
Artwork dimensions: 120x120
Mount dimensions: 230x230
Watercolour on paper
This is a watercolour, ink and pen drawing from the Australian Endangered Species series of a Mallee Fowl building a nest. Dharshi depicted the malleefowl by a malleefowl mound which is a mound made of sand, usually 3-5 metres in diameter and one metre high. In the middle of the mound, up to a cubic metre of moist litter is buried. The malleefowl then buries its eggs within this incubator mound. Aren't they clever!!! The truth is they are reducing in numbers. Due primarily to habitat loss taken for farming, predators such as foxes and very fierce forest fires.
Have you ever seen a malleefowl feather? They are so beautiful, Dharshi nearly chose to paint a feather instead of drawing the bird, but found that painting one with ink quite challenging.
Did you know that Dharshi accomplished something remarkable - she completed two 30-day art challenges in a single year! During this time, she created more than 60 artworks, including 30 pieces featuring endangered species. Among these works is this piece showcasing an endangered species. The original watercolour was painted on 100% cotton paper using the highest quality watercolours available.
