The Australian endangered species the Baw Baw Frog (Philoria frosti) is a species of frog found in the mountains of Victoria, Australia, and is an important part of Aboriginal folklore in the region. In the Gunai/Kurnai people of Gippsland area believe that the frog is associated with the creation of the mountains and the rivers that flow from them. The frog is seen as a symbol of resilience and adaptability, reflecting its ability to survive in the harsh alpine environment. In the Taungurung people's stories of Victoria, the frog is associated with the spirit world and is believed to have helped create the stars in the night sky. Additionally, the frog's distinctive call is said to be a message from the ancestors, guiding the living on their journey through life. Again, as with one of Dharahi’s earliest works of the Rainbow Serpent and other animals depicted in the Endagered Species Collection, the frog is also associated with the Rainbow Serpent, a powerful ancestral being who is said to have also helped in the creation of the rivers and streams of the region.
Dharshi accomplished something remarkable - she completed two 30-day art challenges in a single year! During this time, she created more than 60 artworks, including 30 pieces featuring endangered species. Among these works is this piece showcasing an endangered species. The original watercolour was painted on 100% cotton paper using the highest quality watercolours available. This piece is sized to fit an IKEA frame of 320x320 or can be custom mounted by Kevin at Make Design in Frankston.
