Inspired by Botany gathers paintings built around flowers that refuse to be kept: blooms that pass within hours, that flower in winter's cold, resilient yet fleeting at once. The Elegy series holds this most directly, an elegy for a short but luminous life. The Guernsey Song and Backgarden of the Mind extend the same attention outward, to a geranium that shouldn't grow here but does, and to the mind itself as a garden requiring the same care.
